SAN FRANCISCO BIRTH & BABY FAIR Spring 2009 Workshops
Sunday, May 3rd ~ 10am to 3pm Fort Mason Center 99 Marina Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94123
Meet the Doulas with The San Francisco Doula Group
Are you considering
having the support of a Doula before and during your birth, or are you
interested in the help a Postpartum Doula can provide after your baby
has arrived? If you answered yes to either or both of these questions,
don't miss this workshop! Doulas are becoming more of the norm as parents look for more personal support during labor. Having a doula can help enhance your birthing experience by as a liason between you and hospital staff. Ease your post partum experience by having a qualified post partum doula assist you with the care of our newborn. During this informal workshop you'll find out what a doula can do for you and whether hiring a doula is right for your family.
Local Birth and Postpartum Doulas will present information about what it is they do for their clients, about studies that prove the benefits of having a Doula, and more. There will be a short Q&A session after the presentation and then you'll have a chance to come by the San Francisco Doula Group table at the Fair and learn even more.
The
San Francisco Doula Group is a community of doulas practicing in the
Bay Area. Understanding the needs of expectant mothers and their
partners, the group has become a source for referrals of
trained and experienced birth and postpartum professionals. Each doula listed on this site is active in the local birth community,
participates in continuing education, and has agreed to participate in
regular peer review to ensure professionalism, quality of service, and
open communication within the birthing community, and with those served.www.sfdoulagroup.com

Baby Sign Language with Bill White
Stop guessing what your baby is
trying to tell you and start spending more time fulfilling your child’s
specific needs. Baby Sign Language gives parents the opportunity to
communicate with children long before babies can verbalize their wants
and needs. Signing with babies accelerates language development,
reduces frustration, and deepens the bond between parent and child.
Touch Blue Sky’s baby sign language program is based on American Sign
Language (ASL) and is designed for parents with babies who range in age
from birth to 18 months. Fun activities and songs will show you how
easy it can be to integrate baby signs into your daily routine and
jump-start your child’s verbal skills. Babies are welcome but not
required to attend.
Bill White, director of the baby sign language program, received his Bachelor of
Science Degree in Psychobiology from University of California, Santa
Cruz. He currently is facilitating baby sign language programs at
Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, Mission College in Santa Clara, the
Child Care Coordinating Council of San Mateo County, JFCS Parents Place
in San Mateo, DayOne Center, Babies And Moms, Little Wonders preschool
in San Mateo, The Pacific Athletic Club, Babies R Us, and The Parks and
Recreation Departments of San Mateo, Daly City, and Redwood City. Bill is passionate about the benefits of signing with babies and is the proud father of two hearing sons who both sign.
